It's fresh, hot taiyaki! One of our favorite classic street vendor snacks in Japan, taiyaki is a warm, fish-shaped cake filled with delicious red bean paste. Other filling options include custard cream, chocolate, Nutella, cheese, and more.
Taiyaki is best enjoyed when it's freshly made. The crispy exterior surrounds a warm, soft cake with your favorite filling—simply delicious!
Here's a simple recipe for Taiyaki (Japanese Fish-Shaped Waffle):
- 1¼ cups cake flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 2 Tbsp sugar
- 1 large egg
- ¾ cup whole milk
- Sweet red bean paste or filling of your choice
- Neutral oil
1. Combine wet and dry ingredients.
2. Important: Let the batter rest for at least 1 hour before cooking.
Enjoy making your taiyaki!
